KiReTAMo

KiReTaMo (Kilimanjaro Real Time Adherence Monitoring) was our first study on digital adherence tools. It was a pilot-study to test the feasibility of using real time medication monitoring (RTMM) in Kilimanjaro region in Tanzania. We enrolled five adult people living with HIV (PLHIV) and five adult TB patients who used a digital adherence tools (Wisepill) for three months. We found that it was feasible to use the pillbox. Participants stated the intervention helped them as a reminder to take medication and the pillbox provided a safe means of storing medication. In addition, we found that most participants received reminder SMS texts well, but one participant lived in an area with poor network connectivity. We recommended that the pillboxes should be improved with SIM-cards that can roam over networks and have better reception. From this KiReTaMo study, we managed to move to the REMIND trial. One publication was written based on this study.
