REMIND-KID

REMIND-KID has the aim to improve adherence to treatment for children and adolescents living with HIV and breastfeeding women in order to contribute to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030 (SDG 3.3). It is a two-stage project consisting of a formative mixed methods study and a trial. In the formative study we will collect data with the aim to understand the needs and contents for a digital adherence tool. A survey will be done on facilitators and barriers of using digital health. In addition, 20 breastfeeding women, 20 adolescents and 20 caregivers of children will use an existing DAT, the so-called Wisepill device, for one month after which we will interview then to understand the needs and contents for short message service texts to be sent with the DAT and needs and contents for tailored feedback on adherence patterns during clinic visits. Based on this formative study, we will develop an SMS scheme and scheme for tailored feedback to go along with the DAT. The DAT will then be tested in a clinical trial in each of the three groups. The outcome for children and adolescents is mean adherence, while for breastfeeding women it is retention in care at month 24 postpartum. The study will support one post doc researcher, two or three PhD students and two MSc students. REMIND-KID is a five-year project funded by EDCTP through a senior fellowship plus awarded to Marion Sumari.
