Marion Sumari
Marion is a senior researcher based at Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (KCRI) in Moshi, Tanzania. She is also a research fellow at Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) in the Netherlands and honorary lecturer at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMCUCo). Currently, Marion is a senior fellowship plus holder at the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) under which the REMIND-KID study is being conducted.
Marion has two master degrees, one in epidemiology and one in medical anthropology and sociology. She obtained her PhD degree in Medical Sciences at the University of Amsterdam in 2011 on studies related to adherence to treatment among people living with HIV in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Since then, Marion has been awarded seven grants in which she coordinated research on digital health tools. Currently, Marion is supervising four PhD students of which two in the current REMIND-KID study, one in the complete REMIND-HIV project and one in EA-POC (East Africa Point of Care Viral load testing). In the EA-POC study Marion is the lead in KCRI. It is a multicenter study on effectiveness, acceptability and feasibility of point-of-care viral load testing among children and adolescents living with HIV in East Africa.
Marion has a high interest in and passion for mentoring junior researchers in order to increase the pool of highly qualified researchers in Tanzania and surrounding countries
