World Aids Day 2021
Visit to Anna Mkapa secondary school
Following our ongoing study ‘UNDERSTANDING THE NEEDS AND CONTENTS FOR AN SMS-BASED DIGITAL ADHERENCE TOOL AMONG BREASTFEEDING WOMEN, CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS LIVING WITH HIV IN KILIMANJARO, TANZANIA’ the KCRI-Remind-Kid-Team visited Anna Mkapa Secondary school which is allocated in Moshi urban which is a secondary school that was chosen because youths/ adolescents are among the vulnerable groups.
The KCRI team on site
The objectives were (1) to educate students about how HIV/AIDS started, transmission, medication and all that related, (2) to make sure students are aware of the theme and all matters related to it and (3) to talk about KCRI and her projects (Awareness). We used education about HIV/AIDS by our study dr. Iraseni Swai and on our REMIND-KID study by PhD finalist Kennedy Ngowi. Furthermore, we did a quiz with gifts for the winners like rules, pens and balls. The event went well (successful) and all participants were engaged (thanks to the KCRI team). Students were excited and asked reasonable questions. Teachers especially head teacher asked if we can plan to visit them for other diseases too. For future we recommend that we choose projects we want to do so as we can have prior preparation.
This event was made possible through the REMIND-KID study, a project funded by EDCTP, a programma of Horizon2020
