KCRI Shines at the 2024 Annual Joint Scientific Conference in Dar es Salaam
From May 14th to 16th, 2024, Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (KCRI) proudly participated in the 32nd Annual Joint Scientific Conference (AJSC), organized by the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) in Dar es Salaam. Representing KCRI, the EAPOC and Remind Kid projects, led by Dr. Marion Sumari, showcased their significant contributions to medical research.
The conference, a prestigious gathering of the scientific community, featured keynote speeches, presentations, and an exhibition space where researchers displayed their groundbreaking work. The event commenced with an inspiring speech by Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Doto Biteko, who emphasized the importance of not only conducting research but also actively disseminating its findings to maximize their societal impact.
A highlight of the conference was the recognition of our very own Director, Prof. Blandina Mmbaga. She was honored with the prestigious Maria Kamm Best Female Scientist Award, acknowledging her hard work, determination, dedication, and her outstanding role in mentoring other female scientists.
The KCRI team took full advantage of the opportunity to present their research findings through posters and abstracts. Additionally, they hosted a booth that showcased the institute’s activities, providing visitors with posters, manuscripts, and information about the benefits of wisepill tools and point-of-care systems.
The conference concluded with remarks from Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, Minister of Health, who reaffirmed the Tanzanian government's commitment to prioritizing medical research within the health budget.
